University recognized for supporting community college transfer students
Transferring from a community college to a four-year school can be daunting. But according to Carson-Newman University’s Jamie Hamer, the experience doesn’t have to be.
“We try to remove obstacles and help ease the transfer process for students choosing to continue their education at Carson-Newman,” said the co-director of Undergraduate 招生. “There’s enough decisions that families and students have to make when it comes to college. Whatever we can do to help them navigate the transfer process, sets the stage for their time at Carson-Newman. That’s important to us.”
That approach just earned Carson-Newman’s fourth consecutive year on Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society’s Transfer Honor Roll. The 2024 honor is in recognition of the “dynamic pathways (C-N) has created to support community college transfer students.” The Honor Roll is chosen from among the top 25 percent highest-rated colleges.
The PTK Transfer Honor Roll recognized Carson-Newman as among the nation’s top institutions for developing transfer pathways that lead community college students to achieve excellence and success. The distinction is determined by 40 key metrics related to the support and success of transfer students, including college cost and financial aid, campus life for transfer, admission practices, and bachelor’s degree completion.
